Sustainability and Resiliency

About

From education and research to campus operations, Brown is committed to working toward a more sustainable world.

With an ever-growing body of scientific evidence highlighting the need for urgent action, institutions and organizations around the world must ramp up their efforts to mitigate climate change and preserve the environmental resources on which we all depend.

Sustainability at Brown is a collaboration across campus that is led by the Office of Sustainability, under Facilities Management, and by the Associate Provost for Sustainability, overseen by the Office of the Provost. The University’s Sustainability Strategic Plan, released in February 2021, establishes the commitments Brown will work toward in the coming years to reduce emissions, mitigate negative effects on the environment and take a leadership position in working toward a more sustainable world.

Oversight by the University’s executive administrative leadership is one core element of ensuring vigilance and persistence in the University’s sustained efforts to meet its objectives. Brown has established a model for accountable governance that leverages Brown’s existing strengths and personnel.
