Brown University is committed to mitigating the hazards and risks posed by climate change within the campus and beyond, acknowledging its impact on our community and surroundings.

Climate Change, Resiliency, and Adaptation (CCRA)

 

Climate change presents significant present and future risks to critical infrastructure and public health and safety. The risks can vary in intensity and frequency depending on geographical location and emission scenarios. Across the USA, including Rhode Island, climate change is anticipated to lead to: 

  • Sea level rise
  • Extreme heat
  • Extreme winter events
  • Frequent storms and flooding
  • Coastal flooding and erosion

 

Brown’s Commitment

Brown University is committed to mitigating the hazards and risks posed by climate change within the campus and beyond, acknowledging its impact on our community and surroundings. In doing so, the Office of Sustainability and Resiliency is dedicated to ensuring that comprehensive climate resilience and adaptation plans are developed and implemented accordingly.

Our objectives include: 

  • Mapping out climate hazards and assessing vulnerabilities of Brown’s facilities and operations.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to develop a roadmap for climate resilience and adaptation.
  • Developing and implementing climate change risks and resilience strategies.
  • Fostering collaboration with local and regional governments to address climate change risks in effective and sustainable manners.
  • Enhancing awareness of climate change risks and resiliency across the Brown community and in the state.
