Electronic and Special Waste

Depending on the material, there are a few options available to properly dispose of your electronic and special waste.

Special Waste Bins

Small electronics can be recycled in 10 special waste bins located on campus:

  • Cellphones
  • Television remotes
  • Calculators
  • Digital cameras
  • Charging cables
  • Computer mice
  • Printer cartridges
  • Small batteries

Please do not bring in items from home to recycle in these bins. If you have questions about how to sort something, contact Facilities Service Response at 401-863-7800.

Trade in your functioning devices at the Brown Bookstore Technology Center for a discount towards a new computer.

Trade in unwanted devices at your local Staples store for Staples eCash and recycle old electronics and rechargeable batteries for free.

Oversized Items

More Recycling Options

Broken personal computers Bring broken computers to the Brown Bookstore Technology Center, where they will wipe your data and recycle it through Cartridge World.
Functioning mini-fridges Contact the Office of Sustainability at sustainability@brown.edu.
Large batteries Contact Environmental Health and Safety (401-863-3353) or submit a waste pick-up request online through the Brown Chemical Environmental Management System.
Television sets Bring these items to your town or county Resource Recovery site.
