Building Level Energy Trends

This chart pulls data from Filemaker, WinPm, and shared a googlesheet to create a building-level energy usage dashboard. The bar chart on the top sums across smoothed winpm meter values and filemaker usage entries to arrive at building-level monthly consumption totals. There are known imperfections in the data presented.

Campus Energy Usage Heat Map

A geospatial look at energy consumption across campus. Buildings are colored by mmbtu divided by square footage. Displays one fiscal year at a time. The table is sorted by kbtu / square footage. Hold the Shift key to pan the map.

GHG Tracker for Filemaker Records

Brown's official ghg inventory is completed once annually. The inventory numbers are typically verified six months after the close of the fiscal year. This chart helps reduce the reporting lag and gives more immediate feedback on the current fiscal year's greenhouse gas emissions levels. This project trades off expediency for comprehensiveness. The chart below only shows emissions for the records in Filemaker (i.e. all Campus utilities and some Real Estate utilities). It does not contain all official inventory categories. Filemaker records generally make up about 94% of inventory emissions in any given year.

Filemaker Record Comparison

The motivation of this data pipeline is to provide a tool to help compare an account's latest consumption value against its historical values. This tool can help detect large changes in a utility account's consumption. The table below is organized by utility account number. Records are colored by the magnitude of difference between the current value and last year's value.

Athletics Lighting Usage

This project shows when certain Athletics Lights turn on and off. It organizes each day into 96 15-minute intervals and illustrates with color whether the lights were on or off in each interval.

Electric Meter Values

This project allows the user to input a pair of start and end dates. It will then return the Brown electric meter values that correspond to those dates. All meter values provided are snapshotted at 8 am. The visual also calculates:

  1. The electric consumption (kwh) between the provided dates (ie the difference), and
  2. The percent change in electric consumption compared to the same date range one year earlier.
