While driving a single-occupancy car for your commute, to your appointments, or for your errands, results in more greenhouse gas emission than other common modes of transportation, there are still a number of things you can do to reduce your footprint.

Carpooling
Brown offers benefits for community members that consider sustainability in their commute, such as those who carpool to work. The university defines a carpool as at least two Brown employees who don’t live at the same address.
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
Brown recently increased the number of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations available for community member use.
Sustainability Tips

Keep your tires inflated to the correct PSI - Low tire pressure increases fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Change your air filters - When an air filter is clogged up, the airflow to the engine is reduced, which can lead to a multitude of issues.

Change your oil - engine oil is what lubricates, cleans, cools and prevents wear on your engine. It must be changed regularly to keep your car running at optimum efficiency.

Don’t idle - shut your car off as you’re waiting for someone or pulled over to look at a map. Contrary to popular belief, idling for 10 seconds wastes more fuel than restarting. It is also State law!

Take off the bike rack - if you’re not using your bike or kayak rack or storage container on top of the car, remove it to reduce resistance and drag and to increase efficiency.
